By profession, Shiv Talwar is a Civil Engineer. Structural engineering is a branch of civil engineering. Shiv specialized in this branch. Structural engineers are concerned with the integrity of structures such as buildings, bridges and other structures. Amongst other subjects, Shiv enjoyed teaching bridge building, the bridges across physical chasms.
Now in his retired life, Shiv is focused on building bridges across wide gaps between the hearts and minds of diverse people. For pursuing this goal, Shiv helped organize Spiritual Heritage Education Network Inc. (SHEN) in Waterloo, ON. This organization is dedicated to the promotion, development and delivery of universal spiritual education to globalize the human mind and heart.
Shiv’s awareness of the need to integrate humanity goes back to when he was ten years old in the province of Punjab in India in 1947. Punjab was partitioned between Hindu India and Muslim Pakistan. The partition was accompanied by an orgy of mass murders, rapes, looting, homelessness, mass migration, and unspeakable cruelty on the bases of religion. This awareness lied dormant but alive in Shiv’s mind and he kept looking for ways to act on it until he was made to realize that spirituality is what religion is all about.
After welcoming the delegates and guests, Shiv plans to explore what Reality is and our relationship with It. We learn that Reality is one; Reality is spiritual; in the beginning, there was nothing but the Real, and the Real is all that exists. How do we understand that? Some say, “Just believe it”. But, if we forgo our need to think and understand, we run the risk of becoming gullible.
Shiv is of the opinion that this gullibility has kept humanity fragmented and spiritual education can open our minds to our underlying oneness in Reality, which in turn can open our hearts to unconditional love. In that love only we can work to serve all that is.
